Four Ways to Live Your Best Life: Salt Spring Island

Take a hike!

Take a hike!

There are four provincial parks on Salt Spring Island: Ruckle, Burgoyne Bay, Mt. Maxwell and Mt. Erskine. The parks have hiking trails for a variety of skill levels, from kid-friendly to more advance so there is an option for everyone! If you’d prefer a more casual stroll, the walkway around the harbour in Ganges is an easy, but pretty, walk.

Shop local

The famous Salt Spring Island Farmer’s Market runs annually, starting the first weekend in April and ending the last weekend in October. The Market is a perfect place to pick up fresh fruits and veggies, locally made cheeses, mouth-watering baked goods, handmade jewelry, and unique artworks and textiles.

Speaking of mouth-watering food….

Dine on a delectable dinner

Oysters on the half shell.

Salt Spring Island is known as a foodie paradise with restaurants offering everything from a casual sandwich to a three-course meal. Since you are surrounded by the beautiful Pacific Ocean, it would be good idea to try some seafood – freshly caught!

A few places to try:

Oystercatcher Seafood Bar & Grill – offers fresh oysters on the half shell and often has live music!

Rock Salt Restaurant & Café – with a 180-degree ocean-view dining room, this restaurant is located near the ferry, so you can have a bite to eat before you head back to Victoria or the mainland. Try their fish & chips!

For an upscale dining experience, try the restaurant at the Hastings House Hotel and feast on fresh scallops, halibut or oysters.
